DENTON, Texas – For only the second time this season, Louisiana Tech was unable to grab a point as the Lady Techsters fell, 4-0, to North Texas on a windy Friday afternoon at the Waranch Tennis Complex.
"We had opportunities in doubles, but we could not convert those moments into wins," said head coach
Amanda Stone. "In singles, we did not show the fight we have shown in the past and that is disappointing because I have been really proud of our fight win or lose this season.Â
"While we did come in today as the underdog, we cannot have all of the mistakes and unforced errors. We have a day off before our next match and I expect us to rest and refocus. This can be a great learning opportunity and I think we can rebound well on Sunday."
Â
LA Tech (6-9, 1-4 C-USA) and UNT (5-9, 1-1 C-USA) were in a heated battle for the doubles point to start the day.Â
Madalena Amil and
Anastasiia Salenko battled back from down 5-2 to get to 5-4, but the Mean Green closed it out in the next game at No. 2.
Â
At the No. 3 spot,
Alexia Romero and
Claudia Oravcova were one game away from sealing a victory. However, UNT reeled off three straight games to clinch the doubles point with a 7-5 win.Â
Â
On court one,
Leonie Schuknecht and
Ilana Tetruashvili had their match stopped at 6-5 against the nationally-ranked duo of Nidhi Surapaneni and Lucie Devier.
Â
The Lady Techsters got behind early on, dropping the first set on all six courts. The Mean Green got to four points with victories on courts one, two and three. Â
Â
On the unfinished courts, Oravcova was down 5-1 in a tiebreaker on court six against Sophia Hummel. The senior fought back by winning three straight points, but fell 7-6 (4). It was 1-all in the second set when the match was stopped.
Â
Also fighting back was Romero on court four. After dropping the first set, 6-1, the second set was back and forth at 4-3 when it was stopped.
Â
LA Tech returns to action on Sunday, March 28 to face Oral Roberts in Tulsa, Oklahoma. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
