SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Every game matters. Especially in conference play.
Louisiana Tech (10-13) opens up Conference USA action Friday and Saturday when the Lady Techsters travel to Roadrunner Field to face UTSA in a four-game series.
The two teams will play doubleheaders on both days with first pitch set for 1 p.m. A free live audio broadcast will be provided for all four games (weather permitting) and the link can be found on the schedule at LATechSports.com.
According to UTSA, the first game on Friday and the second game on Saturday will be streamed on CUSA.tv ($$).
Tech has won five of its last seven games after defeating Northwestern State 3-0 on Tuesday night at Dr. Billy Bundrick Field. The Lady Techsters enter league play as the defending Conference USA champions (2019 regular season and tournament) after last year's season was canceled in early March due to COVID19.
All twelve Conference USA teams (6 West Division, 6 East Division) are competing to qualify for the C-USA Championships in mid May in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The top eight teams (based on conference winning percentage) will qualify for the double elimination tournament.
UTSA (6-16) opened the season by winning five of its first seven games before cooling off recently, dropping 14 of its last 15 contests.
Audrey Pickett (3-5, 3.38 ERA) and Bre Hernandez (4-4, 3.95 ERA) will shoulder the load in the circle this weekend while Kara Goff, Lauren Menzina, Emma Hutchinson and Hannah Koenig will be called upon to handle some important innings as well.
UTSA has hit 22 home runs on the season, led by Riley Grunberg (7 HR, 22 RBI), Brittany Coe (4 HR, 11 RBI), Kindell Brooks (4 HR, 11 RBI) and Madison Washington (3 HR, 8 RBI).
In the circle, the Roadrunners have a stable of pitchers led by Jamie Gilbert (1-3, 2.95 ERA), Tatum Seith (1-2, 3.58 ERA), Clarrisa Hernandez (2-2, 3.96 ERA), Marena Estell (1-2, 4.20), Alexa Williams (0-2, 6.08) and Madison Nelson (1-3, 6.70 ERA).
UTSA leads the all-time series 19-12, although the Lady Techsters have won nine of the last 12 meetings.
