BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The last time Louisiana Tech walked off of Mary Bowers Field, the Lady Techsters did so as Conference USA champions.
Just under two years ago, Tech defeated Marshall 3-1 in the title game of the 2019 C-USA Tournament earning the automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
When this year's team walks onto the grass surface Friday evening for the first game of a four-game series, the vast majority of the players will do so with zero recollection of that title run.
Only Zoe Hicks, Lindsay Edwards and Hannah Koenig remain from that roster.
Interim head coach Bianca Duran – an assistant on the 2019 team – has tasted plenty of success at Mary Bowers Field. Tech has won nine straight games in Birmingham, including three-game sweeps of the Blazers in 2017 and 2019.
Through two weekends of Conference USA action, Louisiana Tech (13-19, 3-1 C-USA) and UAB (18-16, 5-3) sit in first and second place in the West Division standings making this weekend's series crucial.
Friday's opener starts at 6 p.m. while Saturday's doubleheader is slated to start at 1 p.m. Sunday's finale will begin at noon. Friday's game can be seen on ESPN3 while the remaining three contests will be streamed on CUSA.tv.
The Lady Techsters won three out of four at UTSA two weeks ago, recording three 7th inning rallies for victories. However, since those wins, Tech has dropped five straight non-conference games, including losses to No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 15 LSU and Mississippi State.
UAB split its opening C-USA series with West Division favorite North Texas before taking three out of four at home last weekend against UTEP.
Since 2016, Tech has recorded the most Conference USA regular season league wins at 67 and has won 24 of its last 33 C-USA series, including 13 sweeps.
