RUSTON – Louisiana Tech looks to carry its momentum into the final regular season match on Saturday when they travel to face McNeese State at 2 p.m. at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center.
Â
LA Tech (8-10) is coming off a strong performance against another Southland Conference school in Northwestern State. The Lady Techsters won five of the six singles matches to post a 5-2 victory in their home finale, ending a three-match losing streak to the Lady Demons.
Â
Leonie Schuknecht,
Ilana Tetruashvili,
Alexia Romero,
Madalena Amil and
Claudia Oravcova all produced singles wins to complete the comeback after dropping the doubles point.
Â
The freshman Amil currently has the longest singles winning streak on the roster, having won three straight. The sophomore Romero continues to pace the team in total singles victories with 11.Â
Â
The one win in doubles against NSU came from the top position with Schuknecht/Tetruashvili teaming up for their team-leading ninth win. The duo has won nine of their last 11 matches together. Â
Â
McNeese State (1-16) has posted just one victory this spring, a 6-1 win over Incarnate Word back in late February. The Cowgirls are looking to snap an eight-game losing skid.Â
Â
The top performer for McNeese this season has been Natalia Ballo who has a team-high six singles wins, coming primarily from the No. 4 position.Â
Â
This matchup was originally scheduled in February, but it was postponed due to weather. It will be the 41st meeting between the two programs with McNeese State leading the series, 22-18.Â
Â
LA Tech has won five of the last six meetings, including last season's 5-2 victory at home.Â
