RUSTON – After a two-week hiatus, the Louisiana Tech soccer team returns to the grass on Sunday to take on Southern Miss in Hattiesburg at 2 p.m.
Â
LA Tech (9-5, 1-3 C-USA) had a bye weekend after hosting two opponents back on March 19 and 21. The Lady Techsters lost, 2-0, to Rice before bouncing back to down ULM, 2-0, in a non-conference match.
Â
It was the sixth shutout of the spring for Tech, this one with
Maggie Boston in net.
Â
The goals against the Warhawks came from
Elizabeth Doll and
Erin Chung, bringing the total number of players with goals this season to 12.Â
Sophie Fijneman continues to pace the squad in every offensive category.
LA Tech has only two matches remaining, both conference games. The team is currently in sixth place in the West Division and needs a strong finish in order to try to qualify for the C-USA Tournament. The top four from each division qualifies.Â
Â
This will be the last road trip for the Lady Techsters when they head to Mississippi to battle USM (5-3, 3-2 C-USA) who is sitting in third in the West Division.
Â
The Golden Eagles had won three straight over UTEP, UTSA and North Texas before being shutout by Rice this past weekend. The team is undefeated at home this spring with a perfect 3-0 mark.
Â
This will be the 11th meeting all-time between LA Tech and Southern Miss. The Lady Techsters lead the series, 7-1-2, and are undefeated in the last 10 meetings. They have been victorious in five straight, including last season's 2-1 overtime win at USM.Â
