DALLAS – Outfielder
Cole McConnell picked up his first Conference USA postseason honor with being named to the 2021 C-USA All-Freshman Team, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
McConnell, who finished his first full freshman season with a .381 batting average, ranked third in the C-USA with a .398 batting average in conference play, ranking just behind fellow Bulldogs
Parker Bates (.406) and
Hunter Wells (.400). The Beaumont, Texas native led Bulldog freshmen with 43 hits, nine doubles, 60 total bases, 31 runs scored and a .531 slugging percentage at the end of conference season.
The second-year freshman recorded 10 of his 12 multi-hit games in conference play. He also logged a 14-game reached-base streak earlier this season. McConnell is riding a team-best nine-game hitting streak dating back to the start of the FIU series.
McConnell joins a list of six Bulldogs who earned Conference USA honors. The Bulldogs tallied a league-best five players on the C-USA First Team –
Taylor Young,
Hunter Wells,
Parker Bates,
Manny Garcia and
Jonathan Fincher. Young was also named the C-USA's Defensive Player of the Year, LA Tech's first C-USA Defensive Player of the Year honoree in program history.
