LA Tech Drops Hard-Fought Battle to Murray State

MURRAY, Ky. – The Louisiana Tech soccer team took a two-goal advantage in the first half, but Murray State rallied to register a 3-2 win on Sunday afternoon at Cutchin Field.

Sophomore transfer Emma Jones struck first for LA Tech (1-1-0) in the 16th minute, punching in the diving one-touch finish at the top of the six off the cross from Lauren Egbuloniu.

Fellow sophomore Maci Geltmeier made it 2-0 in favor of the Lady Techsters in the 37th minute, taking advantage of a mishandled ball by the opposing keeper and heading it in from close range.

However, Murray State (2-0-0) was able to tie things up in the final five minutes of the first half.  First, the Racers' Lauren Payne converted a penalty kick then Symone Cooper scored off a corner kick to make it 2-2.

Cooper struck again in the 64th minute in the second half, a goal that would stand as the game-winner despite a flurry of late opportunities by the Lady Techsters.

QUOTABLES
Interim Head Coach Steve Voltz

"I am disappointed in the result, but am pleased with the performance we put forth.  We showed some inexperience playing together in key moments, but as a coach you always evaluate games for effort and fight and we had that.  We were right there against a perennial team in the Ohio Valley.  We just have to show more poise to see out the half instead of giving up two goals.  Still, we can take away some positives from this match going forward."
