LA Tech and NSU End in Scoreless Draw

NATCHITOCHES, La. – Louisiana Tech and Northwestern State battled for a full 110 minutes on Wednesday night, ending things in a scoreless draw at the Lady Demon Soccer Complex.

Despite being down a handful of players, LA Tech (2-2-1) controlled much of the possession, which resulted in a 12-shot advantage while taking eight corner kicks.

Anna Loftus did find the back of the net in the 81st minute, but the referee whistled offside.  Another near goal came one minute later when Kalli Matlock sent in a cross to Maci Geltmeier in the six, but her one-touch shot sailed high.

LA Tech managed to generate three shots and three corner kicks during the 20 minutes of overtime.  However, NSU (0-3-2) who was coming off an OT loss to nationally-ranked Rice, kept the Lady Techsters off the scoreboard.

QUOTABLES
Interim head coach Steve Voltz

"I am proud of the way we played tonight.  Historically, we have not had a lot of success playing here.  We had a few new players see action so we were rotating a lot trying to find the right fit.  Northwestern State defends really well; they are very compact.  We have to continue working on being more efficient when our chances arise, but at the end of the day I am pleased with this young group.  We kept our composure in overtime and can use this experience going forward."

NOTABLES
  • Libe Banuelos earned her first career clean sheet, tallying three saves in the shutout.
  • Greta Streich made her first career start as a Lady Techster.
  • Carmen Suarez and Marcela Gallo made their first appearance of the season, playing a combined 71 minutes.
  • Tonight was LA Tech's first scoreless draw since the C-USA Quarterfinal matchup versus Florida Atlantic in 2019.
  • This was the second ever tie in the series history (seven matches). The first tie came back in 2006, which also ended scoreless.
