JACKSON- The Louisiana Tech volleyball team collects their second sweep in a row during their non-conference match-up with Jackson State.
LA Tech defeated Jackson State 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-22) for their second consecutive sweep in a row. Although the first point of the game went to JSU, the Lady Techsters took over the first set with a Lady Tiger error and a service ace from
Andrea Spasojevic. Jackson State held LA Tech only allowing them to get up to a two-point lead until late in the set. Three back-to-back-to-back kills produced by
Kalee Cadwell,
Chard'e Vanzandt, and
Imana Ellis gave the Lady Techsters a three-point advantage. Two more JSU errors and a kill from
Carla Esquer closed the first set out 25-20.
A 4-0 scoring run from a kill by
McKenzie Johnson, two from Ellis, and a Lady Tiger error set the pace for the second set. The Lady Techsters were able to maintain a steady lead late in the set when JSU shortened it from two LA Tech errors and a kill from Nevaeh Bray. With a kill from Spasojevic and two back-to-back errors from the Lady Tigers, The Lady Techsters claimed the second set 25-21.
Sydney Jackwin produced four kills and two digs to go along with Spasojevic's three kills and six digs.Â
The third set was nothing shy of exciting with seven 3-0 or more scoring runs to change the lead four times. Spasojevic collected six more kills on the night, along with four kills and a dig from Esquer. The Lady Techsters totaled a .229 hitting percentage in the match with 39 kills, seven service aces, and 35 assists.Â
QUOTABLES
Head Coach Amber McCray
"Proud of this group for weathering the storm to still go get a sweep on the road despite not playing our best overall tonight.
McKenzie Johnson paced us defensively with more than 8 digs a set which is outstanding, but I felt offensively we began the match much too timid in comparison to Jackson State's hitters who played more aggressively most of the night. However, Imana came up with some key blocks and Andrea took the big swings we needed to close out the match so that was great to see us finish that way. I'm glad we took care of business, got another win and can go to work preparing for our next big test at UNT."
