Winning Streak Continues for LA Tech with Victory over UTSA

LA Tech improves to 12-2 on the season and 2-0 in C-USA play

SAN ANTONIO – Louisiana Tech's winning streak reached double-digits on Friday afternoon, defeating UTSA by a final score of 5-2 at the UTSA Tennis Center.

LA Tech (12-2, 2-0 C-USA) picked up its 10th consecutive victory and in the process, tied the program record for the best start to a spring season.

For the second straight match, it was courts two and three providing the wins to claim the doubles point.  Najah Dawson/Ilana Tetruashvili and Alexia Romero/Olga Bienzobas surrendered just three games combined, winning by scores of 6-2 and 6-1.

Due to injury, UTSA (1-11, 0-5 C-USA) defaulted a singles match, giving LA Tech a 2-0 advantage with five courts playing.  Dawson quickly gave the team their third point of the day, downing Stanislava Bobrovnikova by a score of 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 3 position.

Clinching the match for LA Tech was Tiffani Nash who made her debut with a 6-1, 6-2 victory versus Sophie Omoworare at the No. 5 spot.  Tetruashvili provided an insurance point on court four with a 7-5, 6-1 win against Eva Beyebach.

The Roadrunners earned their two points of the day at the top two spots.

QUOTABLES
Head coach Amanda Stone

"We played well today.  UTSA is deceiving based off its record.  They are a tough team, especially on their home courts.  There were able to accomplish a lot with this match … another solid conference win, continuing our streak and stepping up when the other team has the home court advantage.  We set the tone in doubles and I was happy to see all of our lines compete with intensity.  The middle of our singles lineup did a great job of carrying that momentum from start to finish to help secure the win."
