RUSTON | The Louisiana Tech men's and women's outdoor track teams will compete in the 2023 Pelican Relays hosted by Southern University on Saturday, Apr. 10, in Baton Rouge, La. at A. W. Mumford Stadium.

The Pelican Relays will consist of 36 combined track and field events, with the field events beginning at 11:30 a.m. with the men's hammer throw and women's javelin. The running events will begin at 12:35 p.m. with the women's 5000 meters. The meet will welcome programs from Division III, NAIA, and Division I across the SWAC, Southland, and C-USA plus unattached athletes and those from private clubs.
LA Tech will send its full complement of athletes to compete at the one-day, in-state meet after coming off the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas, where
Rodney Heath Jr. qualified for the men's 100m final after running a program record and personal best 10.12 in the prelims. Heath Jr. finished eighth overall with a 10.21, which ranks as the second fastest time in program history and ranks No. 4 in the East Region and No. 8 nationally in the event.
LA Tech has set 89 personal bests from the 2023 Indoor season and three outdoor meets. In addition, Tech has hosted the Jim Mize and visited Waco, Texas, for the Clyde Hart Classic before Austin last week. They will get a week off following Saturday's meet before returning to Baton Rouge for the LSU Alumni Gold, followed by The Maroon and White Invite in Starkville, Miss., before competing at the Conference USA Championships in May.
