Bulldogs Bolster Perimeter with Signing of Tahlik Chavez

RUSTON – The Bulldogs added to their depth on the perimeter Tuesday as Louisiana Tech head coach Talvin Hester announced the signing of Tahlik Chavez, a graduate transfer from Charleston Southern.
 
Chavez, a 6-foot-2, 160-pound guard from Arlington, Texas, Spent the past two seasons as a mainstay with the Buccaneers, appearing in 62 games with 42 starts.  The sharpshooter totaled 168 made three-pointers at CSU while shooting 35.9 percent from beyond the arc.
 
"We are thrilled to welcome another new Bulldog to our program," said Hester.  "Tahlik is a proven scorer that can shoot it with range.  He is a great addition to our growing roster."
 
Chavez averaged 11.4 points per game, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game at Charleston Southern.  He totaled seven 20+ scoring performances, including a career-high 33 against Kentucky Christian last season in which he made a career-high 10 threes. 
 
He tallied at least four made triples in 17 career games with the Buccaneers while also being an efficient shooter from the free throw line at 76.8 percent. 
 
Chavez spent the 2020-21 season at Iona where he helped the Gaels win four games in four days to claim the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament title as the No. 9 seed and advance to the NCAA Tournament. 
 
With the Gaels, he saw action in 16 of their 18 games while averaging 3.2 points and 1.2 rebounds.  His best performance came against Morgan State, scoring 17 points to go along with five boards.
 
His first stop out of high school was at Garden City Community College where as a freshman he averaged 20.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game.  He connected on 108 made three-pointers at a 44.4 percent clip.  He scored 20+ points 18 times, including a season-best 42-point effort against Dodge City.
 
Prior to college, Chavez was a four-year varsity starter at Lake Ridge High School in Texas where he holds school records for single-game three-pointers (10), single-season three-pointers (124), and career steals (68).
 
Chavez joins recent signees Devin Ree (Louisville), Daniel Batcho (Texas Tech), Terri Miller Jr. (College of the Sequoias), and Sean Newman Jr. (Fullerton College).
