Lady Techsters Host Ragin’ Cajuns for In-State Showdown

RUSTON, La. – The Louisiana Tech Softball team closes out its home regular-season slate at Dr. Billy Bundrick Field on Wednesday at 5 p.m. by hosting UL-Lafayette in the final non-conference regular-season matchup for Tech.

ABOUT LOUISIANA TECH (31-20)
Louisiana Tech is 31-20 on the season and coming off a 1-2 weekend against Charlotte, winning the opener 4-3 before falling 8-1 in game two and dropping the finale 3-1 in nine innings. Katelin Cooper had a three-run home run in the series opener while driving in all four runs in the contest.
Cooper leads the Lady Techsters with eight home runs this season while tallying 37 RBI, which ranks sixth among all Conference USA players.
Louisiana Tech has a team ERA of 2.18 in 353 innings pitched this season. The 2.18 ERA is the best team ERA by a Tech pitching staff since 1999, when they finished the year with a 1.23 mark.
Brook Melnychuk leads Tech with a 1.60 ERA and carries a 5-7 record in 61.1 innings pitched. Mary Martinez holds a team-best 10-3 record and a 1.94 ERA in 65 innings. Allie Floyd leads the Lady Techsters with 116 innings pitched while posting an 8-7 mark and an ERA of 2.29.
Kylie Neel is the Lady Techsters' biggest threat at the plate with a .351 batting average, 52 hits, 45 RBI, five home runs, 11 doubles, and 80 total bases. Neel's 45 RBI are tied for the Conference USA lead. The Richmond, Texas product is on a career-high 22-game reached-base streak.
Sierra Sacco also headlines the Tech lineup with 51 hits, 39 runs scored, 34 walks, and a .333 batting average. Sacco has 34 stolen bases this season, leading Conference USA and ranking 11th nationally. The sophomore is the all-time program leader in career batting average with a mark of .393. Sacco has made 110 consecutive starts in centerfield.
The Lady Techsters have done a great job working out of jams this season in the circle, as opposing hitters are batting just .139 (5-36) with the bases loaded.
LA Tech is among the nation's leaders in double plays per game, ranking eighth with 0.53 a contest.
Scoring first has been a significant factor in the Techsters' success this year, as they have posted a 27-3 record when doing so.
LA Tech is led by head coach Josh Taylor who is 70-40 in his second season at Tech and 190-149 in his career, with prior stops at Nevada (2017-2021) and Feather River College (2009-2012).
ABOUT UL-LAFAYETTE (39-13)
The Ragin' Cajuns are 39-13 this season, with a 20-11 mark in non-conference play. UL-Lafayette is on a five-game winning streak and coming off a series sweep of Coastal Carolina with scores of 11-0 (6 inn.), 2-1 and 10-6.
UL-Lafayette ranks 34th nationally and second in the Sun Belt Conference with a .308 team batting average. Mihyia Davis leads ULL with a .390 average and 55 hits while swiping 42 bases. Karly Heath leads the Ragin' Cajuns with 13 home runs and 95 total bases.
Meghan Schorman and Sam Landry are the two top arms in the circle, as each has pitched a team-high 112.2 innings this season. Schorman has posted a 1.86 ERA and 13-6 record, while Landry is 14-4 with a 2.30 ERA.
Gerry Glasco is in his sixth season as the head coach of ULL and has posted a record of 244-66. Before leading the Ragin' Cajuns, Glasco was an assistant at Georgia (2009-14) and Texas A&M (2015-17).

The meeting will be the 80th all-time between the two schools. UL-Lafayette leads the all-time series 49-30.
