Bulldogs Drop Road Contest to Cougars

HOUSTON – The Louisiana Tech Soccer team started the scoring, but Houston was able to remain unbeaten in defeating the Bulldogs, 7-1, on Sunday at the Carl Lewis International Complex.

LA Tech (2-3-1) could not have asked for a better start to the match, putting one into the back of the net in the seventh minute.  With the ball in their attacking third, Tomoyo Kuroyanagi dropped the ball off to Lauren Egbuloniu who scored from 25 yards out.

Houston (5-0-1) quickly equalized though in the 11th minute when Sofia Weber was on the receiving end of a corner kick that she scored from to even things up at 1-1.

It was a fairly even battle for the rest of the first half, but the Cougars pulled ahead with just one minute remaining before intermission from a goal scored by Alexis Fowlkes.

After a couple of chances by the Bulldogs to even things back up early in the second half, UH gained possession in the midfield and turned that into a breakaway goal in the 56th minute.

One of the top offensive teams in the country coming into the match added four more goals after that in the 63rd, 66th, 87th, and 88th minute.

QUOTABLES
Head coach Steve Voltz

"We have to learn to be more disciplined.  We needed to win the first half with how well we played to start the game, but allowing that goal right before halftime hurt us.  We had a couple of good moments at the beginning of the second half too, but lost our discipline.  We have got to learn from this and get back to work.
