RUSTON – After a tough road trip, the Louisiana Tech Soccer team got back on track in a big way by scoring a season-high eight goals in an 8-1 victory over Nicholls State on Thursday night at Robert Mack Caruthers Field.
Â
LA Tech (3-3-1) tallied four goals in each period, getting multiple goals by three Bulldogs –
Kyra Taylor,
Lauren Egbuloniu, and
Kalli Matlock – as well as goals by
Flavie Dube and
Alma Cedefors to overpower Nicholls (1-6-0).
Â
The offensive onslaught started in the 11th minute when Egbuloniu's shot from close range got saved, but the freshman Taylor was there to mop up the loose ball in front of the net for her first collegiate goal.
Â
Egbuloniu made it 2-0 in the 19th minute when she skied for a header goal off the corner kick by
Emma Jones. The junior forward scored again in the 28th minute, finishing the cross from Dube at the top of the six.
Â
The speedy Matlock notched her first goal of the season less than two minutes later, making a run up the left side and then drilling a left-footed rocket that the opposing keeper could not handle.Â
Â
The Colonels scored their loan goal in the 40th minute on an unassisted goal by Brooke Cox, making the score, 4-1, in favor of the Bulldogs going into halftime.
Â
LA Tech was far from done. Taylor tallied her second goal after receiving a through ball from teammate
Laura Ogando in the 67th minute. Then in the 72nd minute, Dube showcased her dribbling skills by finding space inside the 18 and firing a low bullet through traffic.
Â
Matlock posted a similar goal from her first one in the 84th minute, outracing her defender before firing off a left-footed rocket from the left corner of the box. The Bulldogs got their eighth and final goal with just 31 seconds remaining in the contest as Cedefors converted a penalty kick.

QUOTABLES
Head coach Steve Voltz
Â
"We came out with a purpose tonight. We wanted to create chances and score some nice goals, which we did. We had some players score their first goals. These are the types of games we need to have. The results do not tell the whole story because we have been playing well. I got a sense during the short week that the players were focused and going to have a good performance."
