Bulldogs Dominate KMS Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Louisiana Tech track and field team took home 13 top finishes at the KMS Invitational at the Birmingham SportsPlax on Sunday.
 
In the first event of the day, Nemoy Cockett had secured gold going into his final throw in the men's weight throw. All he could do was improve his mark of 55'7'', and he bested that by a foot and a half to finish with a mark of 58'1''.
 
Mateo Smith and Cobe Johnson gave the Bulldogs a one-two finish in the men's long jump. Smith had a leap of 23'4.75'', while Johnson finished at 22'10.75''.
 
A week after setting the school record in the high jump, A'reil Williams took home her first gold with a height of 5'5''. 
 
Tia Reder made it four-for-four in gold for the Bulldogs with a long jump distance of 17'10.25''. Reder would return later and take her second win in the triple jump with a distance of 37'3''.
 
The next win for Tech was on the track in the women's 400m. The Bulldogs took the top four positions, with Jenaia Williams running a time of 57.69 seconds. Osaretin Usenbor won the first heat but finished second at 57.79 seconds. Faith Tarver and Nia Wiley finished third and fourth with times of 57.80 and 58.41, respectively.
 
Shatalya Dorsett picked up the seventh win for LA Tech with a time of 7.50 seconds in the 60m. She ran the same time in the semis just an hour earlier. Dorsett also captured gold in the 200m. at 24.55 seconds.
 
On the men's side of the 60m, Rodney Heath Jr. and Julian Forde took the top two spots and moved into 66th and 67th place on the NCAA performance list. Heath narrowly beat out Forde with a time of 6.712 to 6.716 seconds.
 
Nike Praetzel sat out of the 60m final to focus on the 60m hurdles, which paid dividends. Praetzel ran 8.70 seconds in the finals to take the gold. She ran a new personal best of 8.62 during the prelims.
 
Valentino Rudolph picked up more hardware for Tech. His 200m time of 21.35 seconds secured a win and moved to 51st on the performance list.
 
The final two golds for the Bulldogs came in the 4x400. The team of Tarver, Usenbor, Williams, and Jamara Patterson finished at 3:49.31. Laden Tucker, Tim Rummelhagen, Rudolph, and Marshall Ellis had a time of 3:16.67 on the men's side and moved into 77th on the performance list.
