Bulldogs Lose at Home After a Late Goal From Sam Houston

LA Tech lost 2-1 on Sunday afternoon against Sam Houston

RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech's late game rally against Sam Houston was stopped after a late goal helped the Bearkats win on Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs lost 2-1 to Sam Houston at Robert Mack Caruthers Field.

Sam Houston came out aggressive, putting up ten shots and four corner attempts. Eventually, the Bearkats earned a goal via a penalty after Tomoyo Kuroyanagi fouled Sam Houston's Jasmine Marquez in the box. Marquez scored off the penalty attempt, giving the Bearkats a 1-0 lead going into halftime. Forward Kyra Taylor led LA Tech in shot attempts and shots on goal with two, but both of her shot attempts were saved by Sam Houston's goalkeeper.

Following the second half, LA Tech became the more aggressive team as senior Emma Jones tied the game following a corner kick assist from Olivia Ewing. The Bearkats returned the favor after producing 11 shots in the second half while four were on target. In the 85th minute, following a Cadence Rutledge save, Sam Houston's Andrea Nugent headed a goal in off a Dana Hanson assist. Taylor Cassidy and Charlie Cooper had a pair of shot attempts on Sunday afternoon.

Rutledge collected five saves against Sam Houston, marking her third game in a row with five saves.

"Our players showed tremendous response from last weekend with a good week of training and competed the whole game. We played well in the second half just did not go our way in the last four or five minutes," Voltz said.
