Ethan Bates was named to the 2024 NCBWA Stopper of the Year Preseason watch list.
Seventy-three players have been named to the initial Watch List for the 19th Annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I Baseball, the association announced Wednesday.

Senior Bates posted a team-high 3.02 ERA with 25 appearances on the mound with a W/L record of 4-3. The Arkansas native, gave up 36 hits, and 16 runs, while striking out 57 batters on the year. Bates had ten saves last season, which tied for second all-time in school history and ranked third in Conference USA.Â
Bates is one of four pitchers from CUSA to make the list, while others listed were from CUSA Western Kentucky (two) and Sam Houston.Â
