FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – In just four meets, Tonie-Ann Forbes has made a case to be one of the best hurdlers in Louisiana Tech history. Forbes set a new program record in each round of the 60m hurdles and moved into No. 11 in the country with an 8.15 in the finals on the opening day of the Tyson Invitational at Randal Tyson Track Center.
Already having tied for the fourth fastest time in school history with an 8.29 at the Robert Platt Invitational, the freshman started the day with the second fastest time in qualifying with an 8.22, beating the previous school record by one-tenth of a second.
Forbes remained calm, running against some of the best in the country. She would rise to the occasion and break her own record by over a tenth of a second at 8.16.
The only freshman in the finals, she would continue to improve and set a new mark for the third time in four hours. Forbes would finish with an 8.15 for a fourth-place finish and become the top freshman in the country.
Julian Forde would automatically qualify for the 60m prelims with his school record 6.62 ran at the Robert Platt Invitational. He would run a 6.73 for the final spot in the finals and improve with a time of 6.72 to end in fourth.
Five other Bulldogs would set personal records, while three others would set a new season best.
