Three Bulldogs Finish in Top 20 at Louisiana Classics

LA Tech finished 7th, Niilo Maki-Petaja tied for 4th
LAFAYETTE, La. – Three Bulldogs finished in the top 20, led by Niilo Maki-Petaja who tied for fourth, as Louisiana Tech ended in seventh on the team leaderboard Tuesday at the 39th annual Louisiana Classics.
The freshman Maki-Petaja continued his strong play at Oakbourne Country Club, shooting at or under par in all three rounds for the third straight tournament. Starting on the back nine, he got off to a blazing start with birdies on No. 10 and No. 11.
The native of Finland carded three more birdies, ending the day with a 70 (-2) to register his second top-5 finish and the fifth time as the top LA Tech player. He final scorecard for the two-day event was 72-68-70=210 (-6).
Hunter Battles collected his second top-20 finish of the season, tying for 15th after shooting 70-73-73=216 (E). The senior shot a 35 on the back and a 38 on the back in the final round, jumping up three spots on the player leaderboard from round two.
Lake Juban was the third score used by the Bulldogs on Tuesday, finishing tied for 58th after shooting 77-72-75=224 (+8), while Thomas Henson and Will Patrick each shot 76 (+4) in round three.
The third Bulldog to finish in the top 20 was freshman Gray Kingrea, tying for 18th as the top individual with a 75-71-71=217 (+1). After shooting a 71 (-1) with a team-best six birdies in round two, he backed that up with another 71 (-1).
Texas A&M ran away with the team title, finishing 17 strokes ahead of second-place Sam Houston after shooting 833 (-31).
