LA Tech shot 291 (+3) on day two of the Linger Longer Invitational
EATONTON, Ga. – Louisiana Tech put together a round two score of 291 (+3) on Monday, three strokes better than its day one output on the Great Waters Golf Course at the Linger Longer Invitational.
LA Tech remained in 12th place on the team leaderboard after the completion of 36 holes, but the Bulldogs put themselves within striking distance of making a move for the final round after carding the 7th-best team score among the field in round two.
The team was paced by freshman Gray Kingrea who shot 71 (-1), finishing in the red for the third time in his last four rounds. He was 2-under through his first five holes, but bogeys on No. 15 and No. 17 resulted in a 36 on the back nine. His birdie on the Par 5 No. 6 ultimately put him back in the red as he came home with three straight pars.
Fellow freshman Niilo Maki-Petaja struggled at the start, +4 through the first seven holes. He regrouped quickly though, stringing together four straight birdies to ultimately finish with a 72 (E).
A day after tying his season-low round, senior Lake Juban shot another 36 on the back nine. Despite two big numbers on the front, he tallied back-to-back birdies on No. 3 and No. 4 to go along with an eagle on No. 6 to shoot 73 (+1), tying for 33rd on the player leaderboard with 18 holes to go.
Senior Hunter Battles was two strokes better in round two, steadying his play on the front nine with eight pars and a birdie on No. 6 to shoot 75 (+3).
LA Tech made up some ground on its opponents ahead of them, now six strokes back of the seventh place. Alabama continues to outpace the field, 16 shots ahead of second place Virginia.
