LA Tech Shuts Out Sam Houston

Bulldogs improved to 11-6 on the season and 3-1 in CUSA play with a 4-0 win over the Bearkats

Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Texas – After a disappointing home loss two weeks ago, Louisiana Tech finally got back on the courts and registered a dominating 4-0 road victory over Sam Houston on Saturday afternoon at the McAdams Tennis Complex.

LA Tech (11-6, 3-1 CUSA) dropped only one set the entire match, first tallying the doubles point followed by straight-set victories on courts one, three, and five in singles versus Sam Houston (7-9, 1-2 CUSA).

After missing the previous match due to injury, Alexia Romero was back to team up with Olga Bienzobas.  The duo got the winning started for the Bulldogs, taking it 6-1 on court one.  Their doubles neighbor, Tiffani Nash and Valentina Vasquez, clinched the opening point with a 6-3 victory on court two.

Bienzobas quickly made it 2-0 in favor of LA Tech as the senior overpowered Megan Basson at the No. 1 position, winning 12 of the 13 games to take it 6-0, 6-1, extending her program-setting streak to 15 matches.

Zoie Epps gave the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead, defeating Linn Sveard at the No. 5 spot with a 6-1, 6-3 victory, her ninth of the spring.  Then it was Vasquez, clinching the match from the No. 3 position by downing Roberta Sechi 6-2, 6-1.

Nash and Romero were each up a set when the match was clinched while Ana Rodrigues was a set down.
