WACO, Texas — The Louisiana Tech track and field teams set four new PRs and three top-10 finishes on the first day of the Michael Johnson Invitational at the Clyde Heart Track & Field Stadium on Friday.
Nemoy Cockett placed ninth with his personal best on his second attempt of the hammer throw. The senior launched the apparatus 57.33m (188'1'') for his new PR.
Rodney Heath Jr. doesn't run his main event until tomorrow, but he still made some noise in the 200m. Heath Jr. would claim fourth by one-hundredth of a second to PR with a 21.03.
Two more Bulldogs tied or set new PRs in the 200m. Devin Walton tied his fastest time at 21.44, while Jamara Patterson shaved nearly a second off her fastest time with a 24.79.
Mateo Smith was the only other LA Tech athlete in the top 10. Smith finished ninth in the long jump at 7.12m (23'4.5''). Valentino Rudolph finished just outside at 11th, running a 21.30 in the 200m.

The Bulldogs return tomorrow, with the field events starting at 10:30 a.m. CT and the running events starting at 1:30 p.m. CT at Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium.
