Brodersen Selected by Cardinals in MLB Draft

Sam Brodersen was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals

RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech pitcher Sam Brodersen was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals as the 441st pick (round 15) on day three of the 2024 MLB draft.

Tech has now had three consecutive years of a pitcher being selected in the MLB Draft, starting with Cade Gibson to the Miami Marlins in 2022, Landon Tompkins to the Pittsburgh Pirates in last year's draft, and Sam Brodersen to the St. Louis Cardinals.

Brodersen led the team in strikeouts with 96 and 40 walks on the bump. The Orlando, Florida native also led Tech with an 8-1 record on the mound following his team-leading 3.05 ERA. The right-handed pitcher gave only 31 hits and 21 runs in 56 innings pitched (33 appearances). In addition, batters facing Brodersen hit for an average of .160, the lowest average of all Tech pitchers. In his lone season with Tech, Brodersen was named a CUSA First-Team All-Conference and Second-Team All-LSWA.
