Series History: LA Tech leads 8-2
The 'Dogs saw their largest win since March 15 in an 12-1 midweek win over Northwestern State Tuesday to bounce back after falling in the Sunday rubber match at DBU. It was Tech's sixth consecutive win over the Demons and their largest win over NSU since a 15-3 win at home during the 2009 season.
Tech earned the series victory against Liberty at home last season, as well as eliminating the Flames from the 2025 CUSA Championship in Lynchburg in their last meeting. The 'Dogs swept Liberty in their inaugural meeting in 2024 before falling to the Flames in the opening round of the 2024 CUSA Championship.
Tech would then take the next two elimination games over Liberty en route to a championship game appearance in front of the home crowd.
Matt Houston has driven in a third of all Bulldog runs over the last five games including two RBI on a pair of doubles in Tuesday's midweek contest with NSU. The senior from Longview, Texas native is batting .615 over that stretch with 10 RBI and enters the weekend on a nine-game hit streak.
He leads all 'Dogs with a .347 batting average and .792 slugging percentage, along with belting nine homers and driving in 19 RBI in just 27 appearances this season.
Sebastian Mexico picked up his sixth game with 4+ RBI as a Bulldog in the midweek win behind two doubles of his own. Mexico is batting .285 on the season with 41 hits and 24 RBI.
Liberty has won its last seven CUSA weekend series, dropping only their first conference series this season at Missouri State. The Flames are coming off a series sweep of New Mexico State last weekend and a midweek home loss to Virginia Tech Tuesday.
Liberty pitcher Ben Blair is second in CUSA in both strikeouts and innings pitched with 91 in 71.1 innings of work this season. The preseason selection for conference Pitcher of the Year, his 3.15 ERA ranks seventh in the league just behind teammate Zayac Bradley's 3.13 ERA.
Bradley has a 7-0 record in 11 starts this season, tying LA Tech hurler
Declan Dahl for the most wins in the conference. The pair of Flames arms have each allowed just 25 runs this season.
The Flames have three batters hitting over .300 this season in Tanner Marsh, Jordan Jaffe and Nick Barone. Marsh's .366 average ranks fourth in the league and he leads CUSA with five triples and 60 runs scored. Barone leads the flames with 50 RBI and 10 home runs.
