Tech Falls to South Alabama in Their Home Opener

LA Tech lost 2-0 to South Alabama

RUSTON, La. - The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs fall to South Alabama in their home opener at Robert Mack Caruthers Field. Tech gave two first-half goals to South Alabama to ultimately fall 2-0 on Thursday night.

Tech combined for eight shots while having three shots be saved by the South Alabama goalkeeper Allison Luckhardt. South Alabama forced their attack on Tech, putting up ten shots, with two being saved by Tech goalkeeper Cadence Rutledge. The Jaguars netted two goals in the first half, with the first one coming in the 5th minute of play, where April Lantaigne connected on an assist from Irene Campo to put one in the top right corner. Then South Alabama's second goal was scored by Irene Campo in the 31st minute, with an assist from Monique Gray, in which Campo blasted one into the bottom right of the goal.

Freshman Maeva Costenaro set up two shots for Tech, with one coming in the 5th minute and the second shot coming in the ninth minute. Defender Madita had an opportunity to put Tech on the board with a header in the 14th minute but hit the crossbar. In the 73rd minute,  midfielder Tal Faingezicht almost squeezed a shot by South Alabama's goalkeeper that could have put Tech on the board, but the shot was saved.

"We just need to be ruthless and balanced with our attacks in front of the goal and have a situational awareness with cleverness about turning our attacks and shots," Voltz said.

Goalkeeper Rutledge recorded two saves in her second start for the Bulldogs.

"We were reckless with our opportunities near the goal. We did not get dominated in the game, and South Alabama just capitalized on their chances," Voltz said.
