The Bulldogs Late Rally Secured a Tie With The Tigers

LA Tech tied Grambling State 3-3 on Sunday night

RUSTON, La. - Second-half goals from freshman Maeva Costenaro and fifth-year Kalli Matlock helped Tech earn a tie with crosstown foe Grambling State. LA Tech fought back in the second half after being down 3-1 to secure a 3-3 tie against Grambling State on Sunday night in front of a crowd of 252 at Robert Mack Caruthers Field.

In the first half, Grambling State put the attack on Tech early after putting up a goal in the 36th minute from Naiya Singleton, assisted by Charlotte Cuthbertson and Ronya Halleen, following a later goal in the 38th minute from Kennedy Farr. Tech responded with a goal from Matlock in the 40th  minute after a handball was given to Grambling State in the box, allowing Matlock to score the penalty kick.

Later in the second half, Grambling State would put the Bulldogs down 3-1, following a goal from Jayla Gage in the 51st minute. Costenaro would cut Grambling State's lead to one following a goal from deep outside the box in the 57th minute. LA Tech was awarded another penalty following another handball from Grambling State inside the box, which Matlock booted in her second goal of the night and tied up the game.

"A lot of kudos to Kalli for stepping up in high-pressure situations. Her scoring the first penalty towards the end of the first half kept us in the ballgame, and the second penalty to tie up the game," Voltz said.

Tech has now outshot opponents in the second half in back-to-back games. Louisiana Tech held Grambling State to four shots while the Bulldogs took ten second-half shots.

"As we mature as a program, we must learn to put opportunities away early. In the second half, we matched their energy and stood up for ourselves. We have to overcome bad decisions on the field and not let them impact us," Voltz said.
