The Bulldogs fell in their third-straight conference match on a heartbreaking finish in the final minute by Middle Tennessee on October 5. Tech has not been able to hit the back of the net since their CUSA opener against UTEP on September 19.
Tech is 4-2 all-time against the Aggies but have fallen in their previous two matchups. The Bulldogs were 4-0 over New Mexico State during their four consecutive meetings from 2009-2012 before meeting again in 2023 as CUSA opponents.
The Bulldogs are currently fighting for a spot among the top eight in the conference standings, sitting in a tie with the Aggies at three points apiece.
Previewing the Aggies
New Mexico State is led by Rob Baarts, who is in his eighth season as the head coach for the Aggies. He led his squad to their first regular season conference title in 2023 after guiding New Mexico State to an undefeated 6-0-2 CUSA record in their first season as conference members.
From 2022-2024, Baarts amassed a 34-17-9 record, including back-to-back 10-win seasons in through their first two campaigns in CUSA.
Ariana Leamons and Meredith Scott are the only two Aggies with multiple goals this year, each netting two scores. Bianca Chacon, Amaya Simoni-Walters and Andrea Alvarenga combine for nine of the team's 13 total assists this year while Scott and Simoni-Walters are tied for the team lead with five total points each.
Valerie Guha has been the mainstay in goal for New Mexico State, starting in all 14 matches. She has allowed 30 goals for a GAA of 2.19 and 55 saves on 207 shots faced.
Baarts has been fairly consistent with his starting lineup this year with eight players that have started in all 14 matches and six of those have recorded at least 1,000 minutes.
