Bulldogs Blank Bears In Thursday Night Road Test

Springfield native Peyton Wiseman netted the game-winner late in the match with just over 20 minutes to go for her second score of the season.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Louisiana Tech (4-11-1, 3-3-0 CUSA) found its second-straight CUSA win following a 1-0 shutout victory over the Missouri State Bears (5-7-3, 2-2-2 CUSA) at Betty & Bobby Allison South Stadium in Springfield.

The Bulldogs and Bears battled to a scoreless first half in Springfield, with Missouri State outshooting Tech 6-5 through 45 minutes of action. The Bears were able to put a pair of attempts on target through the first 10 minutes but were ultimately saved by Ansley Ittel.

The Bulldogs created pressure throughout the first half despite just putting one of their five attempts on target. Maeva Costenaro provided one of the better looks with a floater that looked like it could sneak in the top right corner past the shorter Missouri State keeper, but had too much air and landed on top of the net.

Tech maintained pressure at the start of the second half, outshooting Missouri State 4-1 through the first 30 minutes.

Ashley Leonhart received a pass from the back line before driving down and flicking the ball out front where Peyton Wiseman was able to get a good enough touch past the incoming Bears keeper to put the Bulldogs out front in the 69th minute.

This was Wiseman's second goal of her career and Leonhart's second assist in as many matches.

With Thursday's win, the Bulldogs now have consecutive wins for the first time since 2024 and consecutive wins in Conference USA play since the end of the 2023 campaign. Wiseman took a match-high three attempts followed by two attempts taken by Costenaro.

Leonhart is the first Bulldog with assists in back-to-back matches since Madison Pensom did so earlier this season against McNeese and UL-Lafayette. Ittel earned her first career clean sheet and second

The Bulldogs now have a pair of shutout wins in regular-season CUSA play for the first time since 2018.

Head Coach Steve Voltz following the massive road win:
"What a performance. To go into that place and come out with a 1-0 win—absolutely incredible. I'm just so proud of these women for showing up, and I'm thrilled for Peyton to have the game-winner in her hometown. Ansley—just another solid performance along with our entire back line doing their job. Give credit to Missouri State, they came out really hot in the first 15 minutes, but we survived the storm and I felt like we had control of the game from that point on. I'm just so proud of this team. We have put ourselves in a good position for the conference tournament, and who knows? But we still have work to do. Super proud of our women, we have another big game coming up on Sunday, but just an all-around team effort and everyone did their part tonight."
