The Bulldogs are currently riding a two-match win streak with a comeback 2-1 win at New Mexico State followed by a 1-0 victory at Missouri State. It is the first time the Bulldogs have won consecutive conference games since 2023, and with the shutout win against the Bears the Bulldogs have a pair of shutout wins in regular-season CUSA play for the first time since 2018.
Tech has not been able to secure three-straight road wins in CUSA play since 2017.
The Bulldogs fell to the Panthers, 3-0, at home last year, snapping a six-match unbeaten streak for Tech when facing FIU. The 'Dogs snagged a comfortable 4-0 win over the Panthers the last time the two sides faced in Miami back in 2021, with Tech holding a 2-1-1 record over FIU when playing in the Sunshine State.
Previewing the Panthers
FIU enters Sunday in a tie for sixth place with the Bulldogs, with each side sitting at nine points each. The Panthers have fallen off in their recent contests, dropping three-straight against Liberty, Middle Tennessee and Sam Houston after opening CUSA play with a 3-0 record.
A 2-1 road win over Delaware is how the Panthers introduced the Blue Hens in their first CUSA contest before also taking down Kennesaw State, 2-0, and Jacksonville State, 2-1, on the road as well.
FIU is led by first-year head coach Mat Dunn, who has a rich history at the NAIA level leading Keiser University to a combined 245-42-17 record across a 14-year span. He saw back-to-back NAIA national championships in 2019 and 2020, as well as six Final Four appearances and one runner-up finish.
He led the Seahawks to 10 SUN regular season titles in addition to six conference tournament championships.
Montelene Dymond has been one of the league's best scorers this year, having seven goals thus far this year which is good to tie the second-most in CUSA. Jayden Boelter has added four goals along with Chinatsu Kaio's three followed by four separate players with a goal.
Kaio and Grace Morris are the only Panthers with multiple assists, with Kaio leading the program with three and Morris with two. Dymond leads the team with 14 total points followed by Kaio and Boelter tied for the second-most with nine each.
Valery Restrepo has been the only FIU keeper to see action this season, having allowed 17 goals in 14 starts for a 1.21 GAA. She also has knocked away 49 saves on 162 shots faced for a save percentage of .742.
