ABOUT LOUISIANA TECH (9-4)
After winning eight straight matches, LA Tech suffered back-to-back losses in Houston this past weekend narrowly falling to UNLV 4-3 and dropping a 4-0 decision to No. 59 Rice on its home courts.
Â
The three points versus the Rebels came in dual singles with
Ana Rodrigues,
Zoie Epps, and
Alice Brook providing points. Epps continues to pace the Bulldogs with an 11-2 record followed by Brook (8-3) and Rodrigues (7-4) who has won four straight and six of the senior's last seven.
Â
Despite not being able to secure a doubles win against either the Rebels or Owls, LA Tech still owns a 21-12 combined record this spring. The duo of Brook and
Maria Tsironi have a team-best 8-4 record while playing at the No. 2 position.
Â
ABOUT ABILENE CHRISTIAN (2-8)
Abilene Christian, a team made up of seven upperclassmen, lost its first six dual matches this spring, facing stiff competition against the likes of SMU, Texas Tech, and Texas. The Wildcats put an end to that losing skid with back-to-back victories over Incarnate and Dallas Baptist.
Â
With two matches canceled and one stopped due to rain, ACU has only played two matches since Feb. 11, narrowly falling 4-3 at home to New Mexico and a shutout loss to No. 75 Wichita State. The Wildcats will face Tulsa at home on Friday before taking on LA Tech the following day.
Â
ACU is a combined 15-40 in dual singles with Angela Del Campo, a ULM transfer, owning a team-high four victories while playing predominately at the No. 3 position. In dual doubles, the Wildcats are a combined 6-16 having won the doubles point just twice this spring.Â
Â
Saturday will mark the first ever meeting on the courts between LA Tech and Abilene Christian.
Â
ABOUT TARLETON STATE (8-3)
Tarleton State is riding a four-match winning streak into the weekend, having defeated Incarnate Word, New Mexico, Oral Roberts, and most recently a 7-0 shutout victory over Tyler Junior College on Thursday.
Â
The Texans have been streaky both ways this spring. They started off the dual season winning four straight but suffered a stretch of three straight losses to Houston, Texas State, and UTSA.
Â
Tarleton State is a combined 44-18 in dual singles, anchored by Maria Castano who is 9-2 on the season while playing everywhere from No. 2 to No. 5. Emma Persson, the WAC Player and Freshman of the Year two years ago, is the top Texan at the No. 1 spot with a 5-4 record.
Â
The Texans are even more dominant in dual doubles, combining for a 23-4 record. The duo of Persson and Maretha Burger lead the charge with a 9-1 mark while playing at the top position.
Â
Sunday's meeting will mark the fourth consecutive season the Bulldogs and Texans face off on the courts with LA Tech owning a 2-1 series lead. The 'Dogs won 4-2 in Ruston in 2022 and 4-1 in Stephenville in 2023, but the Texans claimed a 4-3 victory last season in Ruston.
