Bulldogs Drop Thursday Tilt In Starkville

Louisiana Tech suffers its fourth consecutive scoreless fixture.

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Louisiana Tech fell to the Mississippi State Bulldogs, 4-0, at the MSU Soccer Field in Starkville, Mississippi on Thursday night.

After 26 minutes of a possession battle between the two sides, Mississippi State eventually broke through to take a 1-0 lead after a shot was deflected off the top bar and landed at the feet of an MSU forward, who put it in the back of the net for the first score of the night.

MSU added a brace 11 minutes later after drawing a penalty just inside the box near the field's west end. Mississippi State's attempt was fired to the right side of the goal and went just past the outstretched arms of keeper Cadence Rutledge.

MSU increased their lead to three goals early in the 68th minute after a strike from nearly 40 yards out found the top left corner before concluding their scoring efforts on the night with a fourth goal with just under eight minutes left in the contest.

Thursday's match marked the fourth-straight match the Bulldogs were unable to score as well as conceding at least 20 shots to the opposition. The Bulldogs

LA Tech concludes its five-match road span on Sunday, September 7 with a 1 p.m. CT kickoff in Hattiesburg, Miss. against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles.

Head Coach Steve Voltz following Thursday's match:
"Obviously, we knew we were going to have our hands full tonight, and we fell asleep on that one shot off the crossbar and couldn't get to the rebound quick enough. That's a little disappointing because other than that, we contained them pretty well. I'd like to see the penalty again, but at the end of the day they converted. What I was really, really happy and impressed with was how we came out in the second half and actually had the momentum, had a little bit of a run on the play, hit the crossbar, created some opportunities and had some set pieces. So, those are the moments when you have it against a quality opposition like that, you just have to be more ruthless in front of the goal. And then they hit the banger from 30 yards out, give the girl credit, but those goals are deflating. They hurt when you're defending really well and now they just beat you from 30 yards out. But overall, this last stretch—as daunting as it seems when you look at the scores—we have grown so much. I really, really feel encouraged about how our women are withstanding it emotionally, how they respond, how they just show up every day, and they need to be like that."
