Previewing the Buckeyes
Ohio State enters the weekend with a perfect 3-0 record after sweeping St. Louis in Pensacola, Fla. on opening weekend. Miles Vandelheuvel led the team with a .444 average, scoring a run and picking up two RBI. Lee Ellis, Mason Eckelman and Maddix Simpson all tripled during the series, and Noah Furcht and CJ Reid each hit a double.
Reid leads the team with four RBI while Ellis and Eckelman are tied for the team lead with five total bases.
Two of the three Ohio State wins were awarded to relief pitchers, highlighted by Chris Domke's three scoreless innings allowing just one hit with five strikeouts in Game 2 of the weekend series against the Bilikens. Zak Sigman earned the win out of relief on Opening Day, allowing just one run across five innings on seven hits, one walk and striking out three batters.
Jude Fisher was the lone starter to earn a winning decision, allowing one run on four hits and picking up four strikeouts.
Friday's contest will be just the fifth time in program history the Bulldogs and the Buckeyes take the field together, with the series currently even at 2-2. The last time Tech faced Ohio State was back in 2008 with the Buckeyes winning 7-4. The Bulldogs won the first meeting in 1992, 6-5, and the third meeting in 1998 by a score of 9-7.
All four matchups between the Buckeyes and the Diamond 'Dogs have all taken place at neutral sites.
Previewing the Tigers
Memphis is 2-2 going into the weekend with a 2-1 series win over Toledo and shootout loss to Little Rock on Tuesday by a score of 12-11.
Five different Memphis hitters have homered along with five doubles between four players, including Shane Cox with a pair of two-baggers to lead the team. Webb Watson holds a .500 average and a 1.415 OPS to head the Tigers in those categories. Javon Hernandez has eight runs scored in four games and Cox has a team-high seven hits and five RBI.
David Case earned a win in his start on the mound in the series finale against Toledo. The graduate southpaw went six innings allowing two runs on four hits with seven punchouts and no walks allowed. Carson Fair is 1-0 through two bullpen appearances, allowing one unearned run on one hit, a pair of walks and striking out two batters.
Memphis defeated Tech in the weekend series in 2025, 2-1, taking the first and third games of the series and have won four of the last five games when going against the 'Dogs. The Tigers lead the series with an 11-9 record, with the Bulldogs not having a win over the Tigers when playing in Memphis since 1980.
