Four Bulldogs Shoot Under Par in Final Round in Lake Charles

LA Tech combined to shoot eight under Tuesday at the Golden Nugget Invitational

LAKE CHARLES, La. – Louisiana Tech combined to shoot eight under on Tuesday in the final round of the Golden Nugget Invitational.
 
All four Bulldogs competing at the Country Club at the Golden Nugget finished in the red for round three, led by Morton Bailey who climbed 17 spots on the player leaderboard after carding a 68 (-4) to tie for 19th, his fourth consecutive top 20 finish.
 
The sophomore nearly had a bogey-free round with just one hiccup on No. 9.  He rebounded quickly with three straight birdies to start the back nine to shoot four under, his team-leading 11th round at or under par this season, and finish at 212 (74-70-68).
 
Abel Derksen jumped five spots to tie for 25th after shooting two under (70) in the final round.  It was an up-and-down day for the sophomore, registering seven birdies to go along with five bogeys.  Going three under on the final seven holes to end with a scorecard of 69-74-70=213 (-3).
 
Oskari Schuvalow tied for 30th after shooting one under (71).  He caught fire in the middle of his round, going four under during a stretch of eight holes.  The junior shot 69-74-71-214 (-2) for the tournament.
 
Lastly, Riley Hnatyshyn also shot 71 (-1) in round three, tying for 36th.  The senior shot at or under par in all three rounds, finishing with a scorecard of 215 (72-72-71).   
 
NOTABLES
  • Morton Bailey recorded his fifth top 20 finish of the season.  He has finished in the top 20 in four consecutive events (first Bulldog to do so since Niilo Maki-Petaja, 2024).
  • Morton Bailey has registered 11 rounds at or under five (eight of the last 10).
  • Morton Bailey's 68 (-4) tied for the third lowest round this season by a Bulldog.  It tied for the third lowest round three score at the Golden Nugget Invitational.
  • Abel Derksen totaled a team-high 15 birdies at the event, tied for the most by any Bulldog this season.  His seven birdies in round three tied for the second most in a single round this season.
  • Riley Hnatyshyn shot at or under par in all three rounds, becoming the third Bulldog to do so at an event this season.  It marked the first time in his collegiate career he has done so.
  • Oskari Schuvalow shot a 69 (-3) in round one.  Four of his six rounds under par this season have come in the first round of an event.

LA Tech will be back in action next week as the Bulldogs travel to Lafayette to take part in the Louisiana Classics.
