Preview: LA Tech at New Mexico State

Bulldogs set to open CUSA play on the road

RUSTON – Louisiana Tech softball opens Conference USA play this weekend as the Bulldogs travel to Las Cruses, N.M. to face New Mexico State in a three-game series. The Bulldogs and Aggies will square off on Friday at 7 p.m. CT, 5 p.m. CT on Saturday and 12 p.m. CT on Sunday. There will be no stream for this weekend's games.

This will mark the 39th all-time meeting between LA Tech and NMSU. The Aggies traveled to Ruston during the 2025 regular season and took the first two games of the series before Tech salvaged the finale on Sunday. The Bulldogs and Aggies also met in the opening round of the 2025 CUSA Tournament, where Tech earned a 5-4 win on a walk-off home run.

ABOUT LOUISIANA TECH
 
LA Tech fell to 13-7 on Wednesday night as the Bulldogs traveled to College Station, Texas, to face No. 14 Texas A&M before heading to Las Cruces. A&M earned a 9-1 run-rule victory in the contest after outhitting the Bulldogs 8-4.
 
Elena Heng extended her hitting streak to eight games after recording two singles. Reese Torres also collected two hits, including a double, and drove in the Bulldogs' lone run of the evening. Heng leads the team with nine multi-hit games, while Torres' two-hit performance marked her sixth of the season.
 
The Bulldogs used three different pitchers in the circle against Texas A&M. Allie Floyd (5-4) made the start and took the loss after allowing three runs on two hits in 2.0 innings. Bryannah Campos pitched one inning and gave up three runs on two hits, while Laney Johnson tossed the final 1.2 innings and allowed three runs on four hits.
 
A trio of Bulldogs have 20 or more hits entering CUSA play, led by Heng with 26. Freshman Aleah Brooks ranks second with 22 followed by Allie Furr with 20. Freshman Bradi Gallaway is one hit away from 20 while Torres needs two base knocks.
 
Torres, Gallaway and Reagan Marchant are tied for the team lead in home runs with three apiece. Torres leads the squad with 16 RBI followed by Gallaway (13) and Marchant (12).
 
Floyd leads the pitching staff with a 2.25 ERA and five wins. The senior also leads the staff in innings pitched (59) and strikeouts (49). Floyd ranks third in CUSA in ERA, opposing batting average (.205) and innings pitched. She ranks second in the league in strikeouts.
 
ABOUT NEW MEXICO STATE
 
NMSU enters the weekend with a 9-13 record, including a 5-7 mark at home. The Aggies are coming off a 3-2 performance at the UTSA Tournament last weekend, earning wins over Saint Francis (10-2), UTSA (5-3) and UT Arlington (11-3) while falling to UTSA (2-0) and North Dakota (5-2).
 
NMSU is batting .317 as a team and has outhit opponents 193-185 but has been outscored 167-127. Faith Aragon leads the Aggies both at the plate and in the circle, hitting a team-best .476 while pacing the team in hits (30) and runs scored (22).
 
Devin Elam leads the team with six home runs and shares the team lead in RBI with Kendal Lunar (17).
 
In the circle, Aragon leads the Aggies with six wins, 63.0 innings pitched and 81 strikeouts. Destiny Perez holds a 2.27 ERA with a 1-1 record across 12.1 innings. Opponents are batting .302 against Aggie pitching, which carries a 6.00 staff ERA.
