Dahl Named CUSA Newcomer Of The Year, Four 'Dogs Named To All-Conference Teams

KENNESAW, Ga. – Four Bulldogs received All-Conference USA honors, highlighted by Declan Dahl being named the 2026 CUSA Newcomer of the Year, per the league office's release on Tuesday afternoon.

Dahl was named as a First Team All-CUSA member, while Trey Hawsey was named to the All-CUSA Second Team for a second year in a row. Thomas Allen and Casey McCoy were each named to the CUSA All-Freshman team in their first years of college baseball.

Dahl is the first Bulldog to be named the CUSA Newcomer of the Year since the program became a member of the league ahead of the 2015 season, but is the fifth Bulldog in the past six years to be given a superlative award.

Taylor Young (2021) and Logan McLeod (2022) were both named CUSA Defensive Player of the Year, followed with Ethan Bates (2024) earning CUSA Player of the Year honors and Brooks Roberson (2025) being named Freshman of the Year.

For nine-straight years, the 'Dogs have seen at least three ball players get named to an All-Conference team.

Dahl had a stellar year as the Friday night starter for the weekend rotation, posting a 7-4 record with a 3.20 ERA. He has punched out 96 batters across 78.2 innings, which is the third-most recorded by a CUSA pitcher this season.

The Azle, Texas native was the only pitcher in the league to be among the top five against league opponents in ERA (1st – 2.11), strikeouts (1st – 73), opposing batting average (4th - .201), innings (4th – 59.2), wins (4th – 5) and looking strikeouts (5th – 15). He has 10 outings with at least five innings and six strikeouts, one of which was a career-high 13 punchouts in 5.2 innings on April 17 at Kennesaw State.

Hawsey's 15 homers led the team this season and tied for the second-most in the league. He batted .332 to lead the 'Dogs along with posting the eighth-best average among CUSA hitters. The West Monroe native was one of four league players to register at least 70 hits during the regular season.

The first baseman's 16-game hitting streak, 24 multi-hit games, nine three-hit games, 14 multi-RBI games and five 3+ RBI games all led LA Tech in 2026. Hawsey ranked among the top five against league opponents with a .366 average, 45 base hits, nine homers along with posting the sixth-best OPS at 1.111.

Allen and McCoy each had impact seasons as freshmen for Louisiana Tech. McCoy batted .287 with 49 starts in 51 appearances. He tied for the team lead with three triples, along with recording four doubles, five homers and driving in 27 RBI.

The Prairieville native belted his first two career homers in back-to-back games against Northwestern State (Feb. 24) and the series opener against Southern Miss (Feb. 27). He batted .400 through the month of February, recording multi-hit performances in six of his first 11 games.

Splitting time at second base and at shortstop over the course of the season, McCoy posted a career three-hit day with three runs scored and a pair of RBI against Little Rock on April 14 before cashing in a second three-hit game May 5 against Northwestern State with a career-high three RBI.

Allen has been one of the top relievers in the league in his freshman year, tying for the sixth-most saves among CUSA pitchers with five. When facing league opponents, the Benton native is top three in ERA (2.55), opposing batting average (.192), least hits allowed (24), least runs allowed (12), least earned runs allowed (10) and least walks allowed (8).

He picked up his first career win in his second career appearance against Northwestern State (Feb. 24), tossing two scoreless innings and fanning five batters. He tossed a career-high 5.1 innings with six punchouts against Arkansas State (Mar. 4) before earning his first save at South Alabama (Mar. 8), striking out three across the final 1.1 innings against the Jaguars.

On April 3, he fired off 4.2 no-hit innings with a career-high seven strikeouts en route to earning the win at FIU in Miami. He picked up saves in consecutive appearances against Middle Tennessee (Apr. 12) and at Kennesaw State (Apr. 17), with 2.1 perfect innings and striking out five of the seven Owls faced.

Dahl, Hawsey, McCoy, Allen and the Bulldogs open up Conference USA Championship play on Wednesday, May 20 at 9 a.m. CT/10 a.m. ET against the No. 8-seeded Sam Houston Bearkats at Mickey Dunn Stadium in Kennesaw, Georgia.
