KENNESAW, Ga. – The Diamond 'Dogs (33-24) are set for their second game of the CUSA Baseball Championship, taking on the Liberty Flames (39-18) on Friday, May 22 at 8 a.m. CT/9 a.m. ET at Mickey Dunn Stadium in Kennesaw.
The Bulldogs fell short in their postseason opener, 14-13, to Sam Houston on Wednesday after holding an 11-5 lead in the fifth inning. Tech is now 18-18 in CUSA Championship games since joining the conference in 2014.
Liberty opened up tournament play with a 10-4 win over the Bearkats Thursday morning, lifted by a pair of four-run frames in the sixth and ninth innings with three-run homers in each of those frames.
During Wednesday's game,
Declan Dahl became the ninth pitcher in program history with at least 100 strikeouts and the first to do so in less than 90 innings. His 102 strikeouts currently rank as the eighth-most in a single season in program history.
The 'Dogs tournament opener was the highest combined scoring postseason game they have been a part of since a total of 27 runs were scored in the CUSA Championship Game against Dallas Baptist in Ruston on May 26, 2024. The 13 runs scored were the most for Tech since May 24, 2023 in a 13-8 win over Charlotte in Houston.
Tech won the series over Liberty in Lynchburg during the regular season, taking the first two games to clinch the series before dropping the finale by a score of 3-2. The 'Dogs never trailed through the first 19 innings played over the weekend.
