The Bulldogs have multiple selections in the same draft for the 12th time since 2002.
RUSTON – Right-handed pitcher Declan Dahl and switch-hitting infielder Colton Coates were selected in the 2026 MLB Draft on Sunday afternoon.
On Day 2 of the league's yearly draft, Dahl was drafted in the fifth round as the No. 158 pick by the Detroit Tigers and Coates was selected by the Red Sox as the 484th pick in the 16th round.
With multiple Diamond 'Dogs selected in this year's draft, Louisiana Tech has seen multiple players taken in the same draft on 12 separate occasions since 2002, and the fourth time since head coach Lane Burroughs' arrival to Ruston.
Dahl is also the eighth Bulldog and fifth LA Tech pitcher to be a top-10 round draft pick since the start of the Burroughs era. Tech has also seen six consecutive drafts with a player selected and five-straight with a pitcher. Dahl is the highest draft pick for the 'Dogs since Ryan Jennings was taken in the fourth round of the 2022 Draft.
Dahl was named Conference USA's Newcomer of the Year along with a First Team All-CUSA recognition in his lone season with the 'Dogs, becoming the fastest player in program history to reach 100 single-season strikeouts in less than 90 innings.
Coates has been known for his good eye at the plate during his Tech career, having drawn at least 42 walks in each of the last two seasons, both of which rank among the top 10 in a single season in program history. His 88 career walks are also six shy of tying for the 10th-most all-time walks in Bulldog history.
