LA Tech enters the 2026 season with the second year of the Scott Mattera era, who was named the 11th head coach in program history last season.
The Bulldogs return nine players from last season with six newcomers. Every newcomer is a freshman while four of the returners are four-year seniors with Louisiana Tech.
Among those returners is Riley Steubing, who became just the second Bulldog in the last decade to eclipse 400 digs in a season, notching 419 in 2025. That mark sat near the top in Conference USA last season. Steubing and Sydnee Carter are the lone returners who competed in every game for the Bulldogs in 2025.
Carter is the top returning setter for the Bulldogs, leading the team in the category with 453 assists as a true freshman. It is the most by a Bulldog since 2022, leading the team in assists 19 times and notching over 20 five times.
This marks the first season in the Sun Belt for the Bulldogs since 2000, reigniting regional rivalries and matches against familiar foes.
The Bulldogs return 49 percent of their blocks, 41 percent of their kills, and 68 percent of their digs. Only Steubing is a returner who led in the category the season before.
Louisiana Tech's six freshmen – Kylie Rodriguez (outside hitter), Tyra McKinnie (middle blocker), Jenna Hehman (outside hitter), Abbi Sells (libero/defensive specialist), Violet Morrandez (middle blocker) and Taylor Woods (outside hitter), are the most freshmen the team has had since 2022. That was the freshman year of the four seniors – Steubing (libero/defensive specialist), Grace Krohn (setter), Anaya Hairston (middle blocker) and Megan Cooley (outside hitter).
THE SERIES
This marks the first matchup between Louisiana Tech and Iona on the volleyball court. The Gaels made a 1,370 mile trip to Ruston from New Rochelle, New York, a trip that would take over 20 hours by car.
Louisiana Tech trails Houston Christian 6-1 in the all-time series history. The Huskies won the last matchup in a nailbiter, defeating the Bulldogs 28-26, 22-25, 26-24, 25-23 in Ruston last season.
The Bulldogs trail the Trojans of Little Rock 10-21 all-time, the last matchup coming in a Trojan 3-0 sweep two years ago.
