University alum Kyle Roberts will serve as the next voice of the Lady Techster basketball program.

This move was necessary following the April announcement that Associate Athletics Director for Communications Malcolm Butler was moving over to serve as the voice of Bulldog football and men’s basketball, following the semi-retirement of longtime Hall of Fame broadcaster Dave Nitz.

“The Lady Techster basketball program has so much history and tradition that we knew we wanted to find someone who had a knowledge of it,” said Tech VP and Director of Athletics Eric Wood. “Kyle is a Tech alum, worked in our athletics department early in his professional career, and has provided play-by-play for both the Lady Techsters and Bulldogs as a fill-in for both Malcolm and Dave in recent years. We felt he was a great fit for us.”

Roberts has been working in radio since 2004, serving as the play-by-play announcer for local sports teams since 2009. He currently serves as the voice of the Ruston High School Bearcat football team, filling that role for the past decade.

“We are thrilled to have Kyle Roberts join the program and become the new voice of Lady Techster basketball,” said Stoehr. “Kyle is a Louisiana Tech alum who will bring great passion and knowledge to each broadcast. His voice is one that will resonate with our fanbase as he has previously called Lady Techster and Bulldog games at various times over the last several years.

“Kyle will represent Louisiana Tech and the Lady Techsters very well as he takes over for the longtime voice of the Lady Techsters, Malcom Butler. Malcolm was on the call for so many great moments in Lady Techster history, and we appreciate all the years he spent sharing Lady Techster basketball with our fans. We look forward to having Kyle join us to call those special moments on the court in the coming season.”

Roberts, a two-time graduate of Louisiana Tech (2005, 2011), worked in the LA Tech Athletic Communications Department from 2005 through 2008 before returning to school to get his second degree. He was a regular co-host of the original Fox and Company, a local radio show on 97.7 FM, when it first started.

“It’s a tremendous honor to be considered for this position,” said Roberts. “I have been been a proud Lady Techster fan for my entire life and to be able to now be doing play-by-play for a university and program that I dearly love is something I will not take for granted.

“My wife and children all love this historic women’s basketball program as I do, and we are excited about this new endeavor. I am thankful to head coach Brooke Stoehr, Dr. Eric Wood, and Dr. Les Guice, as well as Malcolm Butler and Gary Northen for this amazing opportunity for me and my family.”

He has called numerous Bulldog and Lady Techster basketball games over the past decade as a fill-in for Nitz and Butler.
