Louisiana Tech looks ahead to an off day on Sunday before taking their first road trip of the season.
RUSTON – Louisiana Tech soccer fell to Lamar, 1-0, Thursday night at Robert Mack Caruthers Field.
The first 45 minutes of action were quiet, yet efficient. The Cardinals (1-1-1) made seven attempts at the net with six in frame, and Tech (0-2-1) was held to just four shots with a pair on target. Nine of Tech's 11 starters played the entirety of the first half.
Just moments after the second half kickoff, Lamar was able to drive their possession deep into their attacking third before a foul was drawn by a Cardinal player in the 18-yard box, awarding a penalty kick to the opposing side.
The penalty taker, Marissa Gross, saw a successful conversion with a kick to the top left bin just beyond the outstretched keeper's hands.
Lamar continued the attack as the game entered the middle stages of the final 45, yet were unable to double their advantage thanks to incredible goalkeeping by freshman Mackenzie Lorkowski, who ended the game with nine saves.
The Cardinals more than doubled the Bulldogs' shot total for the match, 20-8, with 13 second-half shots—just more than tripled Tech's shot total of 4 in the final 45 minutes.

Head Coach Matt Lodge:
"I'm proud of the effort tonight. We were working on limited subs, limited numbers, but those that were on the field put in everything they had. [We had] some tired legs, I think from diving and some 1v1 challenges and some fouls. I'm proud of the effort. We made a change in our shape, and I think it worked for us defensively, and now we've got to tweak some things on the other end. But they took everything that we gave them and they rolled with it into the game, so we're moving in the right direction."
