Box Score 2 RUSTON - A two-out, two-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning propelled Louisiana Tech to a 2-1 win over Western Kentucky (20-30, 1-13) in the second game of a Sun Belt Conference doubleheader Friday at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.
Tech (18-25, 2-14) won the first game 1-0 to claim its first ever SBC win.
With two-outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth of game two, Tech catcher Erin Chernicky singled off the leg of WKU pitcher Allyson Silver to drive in Abbra Mack with the tying run. Freshman Lindsey Meadows followed with a single up the middle to drive home Miranda Knight with the go-ahead run.
Senior Missy Ladd (1-0) picked up the win in relief, hurling a scoreless three and two-thirds innings while allowing only three hits.
WKU scored its lone run in the top of the fourth on an RBI single by Veronica Giddens. Silver (8-12) recorded the loss, allowing six hits and two unearned runs over six innings of work.
Marla Pinkston was the story of Tech's win in game one as the sophomore hurler pitched a complete-game shutout as the Lady Techsters won 1-0, snapping a 13-game losing streak. Pinkston (4-8) allowed only two hits and two walks in seven innings while striking out eight Hilltopper batters.
Tech scored its lone run in the bottom of the fifth as Meadows - who had doubled earlier in the inning - scored on a two-out error by Western.
Tech and WKU will complete the four-game series Saturday at 1 p.m.
