Tech Men Third After Two Days of SBC Track Meet

NEW ORLEANS - Brandon Brown and Ahville Black captured respective titles at the 2001 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships to lead the Bulldogs in day two of the three-day event at Tad Gormley Stadium.

Brown won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a mark of 9:09.13 while teammates Chris Andersson (9:34.30) and Sam Navarro (9:48.0) finished fourth and sixth respectively to also record important points for Tech, which stands third heading into the final day of competition.

Black captured first place in the discus throw with a mark of 177 feet while Tech's Mike Dysput finished second in the event with a throw of 166-feet, 7-inches.

The Bulldogs recorded a two-day total of 36 points to trail only Arkansas State (38) and Louisiana-Lafayette (37) heading into Sunday's final day.

On the women's side, the Lady Techsters recorded 13 of their 17 points in the discus competition as Adrian Kelly (157-11) finished third while teammates Tawanna Williams (135-6), April King (132-2) and Keely Perkins (131-7) captured fifth, seventh and eighth places.

The Tech women were in eighth place heading into day three.
