NEW ORLEANS -- Louisiana Tech senior Ahville Black earned the Outstanding Field Performer award at the 2001 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships this past weekend.

The St. James, Jamaica, native won both the discus and shot put titles at the event. Black captured the discus competition Saturday with a throw of 177-feet, easily outdistancing his nearest competitor by over 10 feet.

Black's toss of 54-feet, 4-inches in the shot put earned him first place in that event, bettering North Texas' Jerome Carrothers by over a foot.
