Tech wins one, loses one at softball tournament
Lady Techster softball (6-19) couldn't scratch out a sweep but managed a split on Saturday as Tech won game one against Birmingham-Southern by the score of 4-1 and lost game two to Troy State by a 3-2 margin at the Panther Spring Classic Softball Tournament.
Marla Pinkston (4-6) picked up the victory in the first game throwing a complete seven innings while only allowing one unearned run.
"Marla did give up eight hits, but she did do a good job of scattering them and the defense played solid behind her," head coach Sarah Dawson said.
Unlike past outings where Tech was unable to get the big hit it had been needing, in this contest freshman Alison White capitalized on a two on, no out situation with her second homerun of the season.
"Alison has been hitting the ball well lately and she got a ball she could drive and she did that," Dawson said.
Sophomore center fielder Amber Miles also had an RBI in the contest.
In game two Tech had opportunities to score but couldn't get the decisive hit in dropping a 3-2 battle with Troy State.
"We left 11 runners on base and had the bases loaded twice with two outs and couldn't get the hit," Dawson said. "We got the opportunities, we just need to do a better job of producing runs."
Freshman Kristin Rupp (2-10) picked up the loss throwing four innings before Pinkston came in to relieve her for the final two frames.
Tech returns to action Sunday with single match-ups against the same two clubs, the first pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
