Tech Softball Drops Two at LSU Tournament

BATON ROUGE, La. - Louisiana Tech dropped a pair of games Saturday at the LSU Purple and Gold Classic, falling 9-1 to Texas-San Antonio in the day's first game and then falling 3-0 to 13th ranked LSU in the nightcap.
The Lady Techsters (7-7) played their best game of the day against the nationally-ranked Lady Tigers but couldn't muster any offense. Tech fell behind 3-0 in the top of the first inning as Techster starter Sabra Warner allowed three earned runs on three hits and one walk.
Senior pitcher Marla Pinkston came on in relief of Warner to start the second inning and pitched five innings of two-hit ball while walking two and not allowing a run. However, Tech registered only two hits off of Tiger starter Kristin Schmidt who picked up the win, pitching the complete game shutout.
Brittany Stanley and Mary Cohn each recorded one hit for Tech in the game.
In the first game of the day, Tech fell 9-1 to Texas San Antonio in a six-inning affair. Once again the Techsters fell behind early as Pinkston gave up three earned run in the first inning on two hits and three walks.
Head coach Sarah Dawson's squad recorded its lone run of the day in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI walk by Jennifer LaRussa, scoring Casey Reiff with one out and loading the bases. However, Tech's next two batters struck out ending the threat.
UTSA (7-5) scored two more runs in the fourth and four in the sixth to end the game. Amber Miles, Bridget Broadnax and Ashley Aycock each recorded one base hit for Tech in the contest while Pinkston (4-5) picked up the loss.
Tech returns to action Sunday morning during championship play.
