Stanley, Miles Tabbed Preseason All-WAC
RUSTON - Louisiana Tech senior outfielders Amber Miles and Brittany Stanley are widely considered the most dangerous lead-off duo in the Western Athletic Conference.
The league coaches confirmed that fact by voting both Miles and Stanley to the 2005 Preseason All-WAC Team, released by the conference office Wednesday.
Hawaii placed the most players on the 14-member preseason all-conference team with five, followed by Fresno State with three, and Louisiana Tech, Tulsa and Nevada with two each.
In the Preseason Coaches Poll, the Lady Techsters were tabbed fifth with 14 points. Fresno State (6 first place votes, 36 points), Tulsa (1, 31), Hawaii (25) and Nevada (22) were ranked ahead of Tech while San Jose State (12) and UTEP (7) were picked sixth and seventh, respectively.
Miles, a returning first team All-WAC member from a year ago, batted .337 in 2004 with a school record 68 hits and a league best 29 stolen bases in 34 attempts. The DeSoto, Texas, native led Tech with 29 runs scored while also earning first team All-Louisiana honors as voted on by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
Stanley, a two-time All-WAC selection, batted .327 last season with 55 hits, 27 runs scored and 12 runs batted in. The Sulphur native ranked second in the WAC with 18 stolen bases in 24 attempts while also earning second team all-state honors.
Both Miles and Stanley were named Academic All-WAC for two straight years.
