Boxscore
Louisiana Tech (8-9) defeated the Baylor Bears 12-4 to finish 2-1 in the Baylor Tournament this weekend, and three Bulldogs were named to the Quala-T Imprints All Tournament team, including freshman Luke Burnett, senior Amos Ramon and tourney MVP Jericho Jones.
Burnett pitched the first six innings of Tech?s 13-7 win over Michigan on Friday and allowed only seven hits and one earned run with four strikeouts.
Ramon was named the best utility player in the tournament for his performance at the plate and on the mound. In all three games combined, he had nine hits in 15 at bats for a .600 batting average with one double, one home run, three RBI and six runs scored, and on the hill Ramon pitched two and 1/3 innings of relief, allowing four hits and no runs.
Jones, the freshman from Corinth, Texas, was named MVP for safely hitting in seven of 12 at bats for a .583 average with eight RBI, six runs scored, three home runs and one double.
Tech and Baylor (12-4) both finished with 2-1 records in the tournament while Pacific and Michigan both finished 1-2. The Bulldogs beat Michigan in the first game, fell to Pacific 11-9 on Saturday and wrapped up the tournament with the eight-run win over Baylor.
Tech opened the game against Baylor with eight runs in the first two innings, and the Bulldogs added two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings. While the offense pounded out 19 hits throughout the game, senior Matt Lacy (2-1) shut down Baylor?s offensive line-up for the first six innings, allowing only one run in that stretch.
The Bears scrapped three more runs off of Lacy in the bottom of the seventh, but Lacy ended the inning and earned his second win of the season before Alan Knotts closed the final two innings.
Ramon, senior Ryan Hamilton, senior Mims Boyce and sophomore Brandon Hudson led Tech?s offense with three hits each, while Jones and senior Joey McCarthy had two hits. Sophomores Adam Cobb and Brian Rike and freshman Chris Kersten finished with one hit, as Tech forced Baylor to throw seven different pitchers.
The Bulldogs will finally return home from their 10-game road trip with a double-header against Lamar on Tuesday, beginning at 3 p.m. on J.C. Love Field.
