Tech Pushes Past ULM to Snap Losing Streak
Boxscore
MONROE, La. -- What started as a blowout ended as a close game as the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (28-18; 9-8 WAC) took a one-run win over the UL-Monroe Indians (13-32, 7-12 SunBelt) 8-7 at Indian Field Tuesday night with senior Amos Ramon hitting what would prove to be the game-winning sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning to snap the Bulldog?s losing streak at five games.
?We were very fortunate to come away with this win,? Tech head coach Wade Simoneaux said. ?We walked too many and made too many mistakes. We let them back in the ballgame, but we fought hard and got it done.?
The Indians made a sure big win for Tech much more difficult with a five-run bottom of the eighth inning by going through their entire batting order but only getting two hits total.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 6-0 lead by the top of the third inning as sophomore Landon Braud gave up only one hit to ULM hitters for the first three innings. Braud pitched a total of 3.1 innings and gave up only three hits.
The Indians finally got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly from first baseman Bo Bowman.
Tech extended its lead to 7-1 when senior Ben Tabor scored on an error from junior Travis Drader in the top of the fifth, but a homer from right-fielder Justin LaBorde in the bottom of the sixth decreased the deficit for the Indians to 7-2.
Senior Ryan Hamilton led Tech by batting 4-4 with a homerun, and finished a triple shy of the batting the cycle. Both Hamilton and senior Amos Ramon had a homerun for the Bulldogs.
Sophomore Alan Knotts will be credited for the win for the Bulldogs, while sophomore Jared Jennings will get the loss for the Indians.
?It helps a lot to get off that losing streak,? Simoneaux said. ?This will be the second first-place team to come to our house (this coming weekend). We?re going to be ready to play.?
The Bulldogs will return to action Thursday May 4 at 6 p.m. when the Hawaii Rainbows come to J. C. Love field for a four game series to makeup a postponed game from March.
