Techsters Grab Third-Place at Tech/TSU InviteSHREVEPORT, La. ? The Louisiana Tech bowling team took three wins in team match play and three more in the Baker Best-of-7 format to snag a third-place finish at the Tech/TSU Invite this weekend at Holiday Lanes in Shreveport.
?We had a very good tournament,? Tech coach Shawn Jackson said. ?We took the tournament?s overall winner (Texas Southern) to seven games, and our freshmen competed very well. So it was definitely a successful weekend.?
The Techsters kicked off the weekend with a single match Friday night against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Tech took a 844-666 victory in team match play with a high game of 231 from
Lakeya Smith, then swept the Lions 4-0 in a Baker Best-of-7 game.
Saturday?s team matches saw Tech take victories over UAPB, Prairie View A&M and Grambling State while falling to Jackson State and Texas Southern. Sunday?s Baker Best-of-7 games saw the same results against the same teams with the Techsters winning three of the five matches to finish 8-4 on the weekend.
Smith?s 231 was Tech?s high game of the weekend, with
Toria Miles close behind with a 230 against Prairie View A&M. Miles had the second-highest three-game average of the tournament with a 633.
Texas Southern and Jackson State both finished 9-1 on the weekend with TSU taking the title on total pinfall.
Louisiana Tech will hit the lanes once again on Nov. 23 as the Techsters head to Houston for the Lady Tiger Classic, hosted by Texas Southern.
